Where Are You From?

What’s Your Story?

I grew up in a house where music was always around. We were always dancing, singing, playing instruments – from church to parties and ceremonies. I started singing at church as a child, in choirs and talent shows. I later joined youth choirs and began songwriting around the age of 9. My first song was called ‘Here are all the stars’.
I did it for fun, but I didn’t think songwriting was something I’d explore more until recently.

My relationship with God grew stronger when I was 18, and I started writing songs regularly, storing them in my notes, journals and anywhere I could. I enjoyed expressing myself but was always afraid of sharing them with anyone else but my family.

This year I felt I wasn’t living to my fullest and I wrote ‘Thrive’ in a place where I felt lost and unsure of myself. I felt God’s words being inscribed on my heart, and I wrote them down. I decided to pursue it further and felt it was something people might be interested in hearing – and now it’s my debut single.

What Are The Challenges You Had To Overcome?

Social anxiety is something I’ve dealt with most of my life, and releasing music in itself is completing outside my comfort zone but taking this leap of faith and trusting God has helped me build a solid foundation of faith. As an introvert, I often don’t want to be seen, and I’ve wrestled with the idea for such a long time, but finally getting to a place where I’m ready to do so and watching myself grow has been healing.

What Is Your Song About?

Thrive is about finding God. It illustrates the desire to thrive and not just survive in the world. The song talks about how all we have to do is trust and have faith in God. It’s my reminder that I need God more than anything.
