‘Tis the season for cold weather and fireplaces, sparkling lights and gorgeous trees, presents and togetherness. During the holidays, all of these things matters, especially with the uncertainty, sickness, and pain that has plagued us in 2020. But none of these things are the main thing.
The main thing is JESUS. He is the source of wonder, joy, peace, love, and hope. He is why we celebrate Christmas.
Jesus is still the reason for the season. And a new devotional reading plan is here to help us remember just that. Titled “The Gift”, YouVersion‘s latest Advent Bible plan comes from Reach Records and is 12 days long. “Advent is a time to celebrate and walk deeply with the Lord as we reflect on the significance of the greatest gift ever given, Jesus,” a description for the plan reads. “Amidst the craziness of the world, take some time this season to center yourself back on the hope we have in Jesus with The Gift Advent Bible Plan.”
“The Gift: Advent Bible Plan” is based around Reach Records’ 2019 Christmas compilation album, also titled The Gift. It features classics like “We Three Kings” and “Silent Night”, along with new sure-to-be favorites like “What a Time” and “Nothin But You” by 116, Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashii, and other Reach Records artists.
On Day 1, the plan dives into Isaiah 53 and Luke 2:25-38, focusing on the waiting and wonder that was present for years prior to the birth of Jesus. “There’s a similar waiting and wondering aspect in the birth of Christ that is central to the advent season we celebrate each year at Christmas time,” the introduction reads. “When we wait for something with wonder, it’s arrival produces adoration in our hearts.”
Each devotional ends with a brief prayer and reflection section that will refocus your attention on Jesus and what this special season is really all about.
