2020 has been a year like none other. Despite the uncertainty and negativity that has abounded over the past eleven months, however, some are choosing to focus on the good. One such person is none other than singer Jordin Sparks.

Thanks to COVID-19, this year saw many more couples staying home together and having to see a lot more of each other than normal. Offices shut down. Schools closed. Sports paused. And live events stopped. Families found themselves quarantined at home with no one to hang out with except, well … family. And for Sparks, that wasn’t a problem. She’s certain that she’s with the love of her life and 2020 just solidified that for her.

The 30-year-old singer married fitness model, trainer and athlete, Dana Isaiah, 28, in 2017. The following year, they welcomed their first child together, son Dana (DJ) Isaiah Thomas Jr., who is now almost three.

In an interview with Andrea Boehlke on PEOPLE in 10, Sparks opened up about this past year and her relationship with her husband. “I don’t know if this is a surprising thing, but I do know in my bones it’s just been total confirmation to me that he’s the person I’m supposed to be with,” Sparks shared. “Dana is everything, he is my partner, not in crime, but he’s my partner in life [and] thrive — is what I like to say.”

“He is an amazing father. He is an amazing human. He is an amazing friend — he’s my best friend,” she added. “It’s just really cool that we can do life together. I knew that he was it before, but confirmation has definitely been a beautiful thing.”

The unpredictability of 2020 has caused many of us to pause, take a step back, and reevaluate our relationships with friends, family, and God. Some of us, have been forced to do less and trust more. Others of us have had to change our plans and perspective on life. And some of us, like Sparks, have received confirmation that we’re exactly where and with whom God wants us.
