[INSPIRATION] Actress Letitia Wright Talks “Overcoming” in YouVersion Video Plan

Letitia Wright, the Guyanese-British actress who recently became a household name thanks to her standout role as Shuri in 2018’s Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, has partnered with The Bible App to spotlight a different kind of superpower.

In a 3-day video plan titled “Overcoming”, Wright encourages viewers with Scriptures that helped her discover victory and confidence in her identity in Christ.

“In 2015, I was in a very dark place – I was going through a really bad place of depression,” Wright shares on day one of the plan. “And I didn’t know how things were going to pan out. But my friend gave me a Scripture.”

She goes on to quote Matthew 6:33, which reads: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Revealing that she didn’t initially understand the Scripture because she was not yet a Christian, Wright says that after comitting her heart to Christ, Matthew 6:33 set her mind free. “It helped me to see that when I focused on God – when I looked at His kingdom and didn’t worry and allow the anxiousness in the cares of life to get to me,” says Wright, “I was able to just keep my eyes on Him.”

Over the next two days, Wright digs into Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 3:5 – two verses that are popular among Christians and non-Christians alike.

Speaking out about her faith is another new for the actress. She regularly posts Biblical messages on Twitter and Instagram.
